Nearly every modern refinery contains a Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (FCCU) to maximize the yield of such fractions as gasoline. These units operate with sophisticated catalysts. Unfortunately these catalysts can be damaged at the high working temperatures of the regenerator from the vanadium that comes from the petroleum being processed. This issue creates the necessity for replacement of these expensive catalysts.
