Typically, diesel engines are not treated for high temperature vanadic corrosion. Instead operators tirelessly replace valves when required. This normally occurs after a cylinder loses compression due to the classic “V”-notch corrosion becomes severe. Much like the mechanism of corrosion in gas turbines, diesel engines are affected by vanadium in the same manner.
