We have developed a zinc based oil soluble additive that by way of a non-reversible reaction forms a permanent compound with hydrogen sulfide.

Hydrogen sulfide is a deadly gas that has many sources. One such source that is particularly troublesome is crude oil. Crude oil is moved onto ships, to and from tanks and in refineries, coming into contact with many refinery operators and personnel. Many types of products have been developed to remove hydrogen sulfide. However, many of these products suffer from a reversible reaction for their capture of hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Thus as the oil is heated, as in refining, the captured hydrogen sulfide can be regenerated. Liquid Minerals Group LTD. has developed a zinc based oil soluble additive that by way of a non-reversible reaction forms a permanent compound with hydrogen sulfide. Our hydrogen sulfide scavenging additive is very effective at removing hydrogen sulfide when applied to the liquid material.

Hydrogen sulfide can also occur in asphalt. Our additives can remove hydrogen sulfide in this application too. Simply add to the hot asphalt and mix. Just as hydrogen sulfide is a malodorous problem, so too are mercaptans. Our zinc based oil soluble additives have been found capable of removing many mercaptans from hydrocarbon streams.
